BREAKING NEWS: Not everything on TikTok is true...
Yikes, we said it, please don’t cancel us!
But, it's about time someone cleared the air.
From old wives’ tales to viral TikTok trends, the world of hair is full of wild advice—and we’ve heard it all. So today, we’re setting the record straight on the most common myths we hear in the salon chair.

We recently sat down with each of our S&S stylists to ask them... What hair myth do you wish your clients would stop believing?
MYTH ONE: SUPERMARKET SHAMPOO IS GOOD FOR YOUR HAIR
Hair Experts weighing in... resident Head Stylists Chelsea & Aimee.
Starting with one of the most popular myths, that we hear on the daily... and for most, the hardest truth. Sure, it's cheap, it smells fruity, and that one influencer said she switched back and her hair's never looked better. But here's the thing, it's all just influencer marketing.
The truth? Supermarket shampoos are often loaded with nasty ingredients and fillers to make you think you're hair is looking and feeling amazing, but really it's just not giving your hair the nutrients and love it really needs, and overtime, will lead to dryness, colour-fading and build-up that you really don't want.
So if you're invested in your colour, your cut or just genuinely want healthy hair, professional products are a non-negoitable. Trust us when we say, your stylists truly do know best.
MYTH TWO: CURLY HAIR DOESN'T NEED CONDITIONER
Hair Experts weighing in... Senior Stylist Jess
False. On every level.
Think about it. If you are a curly hair girl, you know curlier hair is naturally drier and requires more hydration and love in general. Skipping conditioner leads to frizz, tangles and breakage... Basically the three things that define a curly girls nightmares! A good, hydrating conditioner or masque will hydrate those ends, define curls and reduce frizz. We beg you, never skip this step.
MYTH THREE: GOING DARKER IS THE HEALTHIEST OPTION FOR DAMAGED HAIR
Hair Experts weighing in... Emerging stylist Chloe
Whilst it does mean you'll be taking a break from lightening and can make your hair look shinier and healthier, this isn't exactly true... It's not going to actually make your hair any healthier than it is.
What you really need is targeted treatments, strength-repairing products and a good stylist who knows how to work with what your hair needs and can set you on the best path to your healthiest hair yet... It's not just about what looks good on the outside, it's about on the inside that counts.
MYTH FOUR: WASHING YOUR HAIR TOO OFTEN WILL CAUSE DAMAGE
Hair Experts weighing in... Our littlest babe Logan
Not if you're doing it right.
The problem isn't frequency, it's all in the products that you're using and your hair type. If you're using a salon quality shampoo that suits your scalp and you're gentle when washing, you can absolutely wash more often without damage.
Some people can go days between washes. Others need to wash more frequently. Either way, it's about what works for you!
MYTH FIVE: IF YOU WANT YOUR HAIR TO GROW, DON'T CUT IT
Hair Experts weighing in... Cassey & Missy
We get the logic but unfortunately, it is slightly flawed.
Whilst skipping trims does mean that your hair will grow, it also means your hair might not grow in the healthiest way. What it can do is leave you with dry, split ends that eventually will make their way up your hair shaft causing breakage and weakened hair. Our thoughts? Regular trims are essential if you want to not only grow your hair but grow it thicker, healthier and stronger.
Let’s leave the myths behind and build a routine that actually works. Book a consultation with one of our stylists and let’s get your hair on the path to strong, shiny, myth-free greatness.
